NATIONAL DERMATOLOGIST DAY

March 13 is National Dermatologist Day on the National Day Calendar and we honor Board-Certified Dermatologists as the saviors of our skin, our largest organ! Throughout the day, we’ll pay special recognition to our dermatologists who are on a mission to help their patients achieve healthy skin.

#NATIONALDERMDAY

A Board-Certified Dermatologist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect your skin, hair, and nails. No one knows skin like a dermatologist. After more than ten years of extensive medical training, they possess unmatched expertise when it comes to conditions that affect the skin.

Dermatologists hold a special social and emotional connection with their patients for each phase in life. As the leading voice in skin health, dermatologists deserve to be celebrated today by not only their patients, but by their colleagues, friends and families, too.

Your skin is the gateway to your internal health protecting you against viruses, heat, and bacteria. A dermatologist can treat over 3,000 different skin conditions, including:

  1. Melanoma and other skin cancers.

  2. Eczema.

  3. Acne.

  4. Remove or treat birthmarks that can cause eyesight loss.

  5. Treat scalp conditions that cause hair loss, such as Alopecia.

Specialty Dermatology Fields

Dermatology is as specialized field that goes beyond treating skin problems. After becoming a board-certified dermatologist, some dermatologists continue their medical training. They may receive advanced training within dermatology and become one of the following specialists:

  1. Dermatopathologists are doctors that specialize in both dermatology and pathology. Dermatopathologists  are specially trained to examine tissue removed during a skin biopsy and provide your dermatologist with a written report, otherwise known as a biopsy report or pathology report.

  2. Mohs surgeons specialize in surgery used to treat skin cancer. Mohs surgeons are trained to identify where the cancer stops, which isn't possible with other skin cancer treatments.

  3. Pediatric dermatologists specialize in treating newborns and adolescent children with conditions that affect their skin, hair, or nails. Normally, if a child is diagnosed with a rare skin condition or challenging birthmark, they will be referred to a pediatric dermatologist for treatment.
