INTERNATIONAL DROP A ROCK DAY

We celebrate International Drop A Rock Day on July 3 at National Day Calendar. This artistic day encourages creative inspiration by painting designs on small rocks, then hiding them for others to find. We know your artwork will bring smiles of delight to whoever finds them!

#DROPAROCKDAY

We are calling on all creative thinking, fun-loving people across the world to join us on International Drop A Rock Day. No matter your artistic skills, today we are instilling kindness, creativity, fun, and joy in both the artist and the finder. With bright colors and unlimited designs, painting a rock provides an exciting way to bring bits of artwork into the world with an element of surprise.

How do I find a good rock to paint?

  1. The best rocks to paint fit in the palm of your hand.

  2. Smooth rocks with a flat surface provide the best surfaces for designs and images.

  3. Wash and scrub dirt from the surface of the rocks before painting.

  4. Acrylic paint works best.

  5. Use a variety of brushes to help you find the best painting technique for you.

  6. Seal the design when you are complete.

  7. Hide your finished rocks!

Once you've developed your style, experiment with new effects, colors, and applications. Don't be afraid to work with different themes or rocks, either. If one type of brush doesn't do the trick, try a makeup sponge or tissue. Paint markers are another option, too. After you've mastered a technique share your mad skill with others. Join a rock art club to learn even more ways to paint and celebrate the day.

HOW TO OBSERVE #DropARockDay
