FIND YOUR INNER NERD DAY
August 23 is Find Your Inner Nerd Day on the National Day Calendar, and we are sending out an SOS for all inner nerds today! It's time to show the world how amazing our differences are and inspire everyone to embrace our quirkiness by sharing what we love.
#FINDYOURINNERNERDDAY
Nerds come in all shapes and sizes. There are academic nerds, book-worm nerds, movie nerds, science nerds, and nerds no one has ever heard of. Society paints nerds as glasses-wearing people who are uncomfortable, shy, and awkward in social settings. But it’s time to ditch the old stereotypes! We all have a little nerd inside of us, and it's our unique quirkiness that makes us who we are.
Being a nerd is about embracing what you love. If you have a dog clothes knitting addiction, keep knitting! If your guest room is filled with your Star Wars action figure collection, keep collecting! Our nerdy collections have personal meaning and bring us joy. On Find Your Inner Nerd Day, we encourage you to share all of your nerdy habits, collections, hobbies, and passions and inspire others to share their inner nerdiness, too!
In the wonderful world of nerds, like-minded people search out other fellow nerds who have similar interests. Why wouldn't they? No one understand your Pez collection more than someone else who has spent endless hours searching for collectables, too.
5 Weird Collections
People have been collecting "things" since the beginning of time. Rocks, leaves, comic books, coins, trading cards, and stamps. But, in the wonderful world of nerd collecting, the options are unlimited to what a person can become obsessed with. That old saying one man's junk is another man's treasure brings new meaning to these collections:
Banana labels - A lady named Becky Martz collects banana labels from around the world. We wonder if she organizes her labels like a stamp collection?
Soap bars - Carol Vaughn has been collecting every kind of soap she can find since 1991. She has around 5,000 bars of soap so far. We bet her soap collection lathers up fresh conversation.
Pencil sharpeners - Reverend Paul A. Johnson became obsessed with pencil sharpeners in the 1980s after receiving some as a gift from his wife. Over the years he has accumulated so many different kinds of pencil sharpeners he decided to build The Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum to showcase his treasures. We bet his museum is on point.
Crochet items - Shari Elf has been collecting crochet items since the early 1990s. Her collection eventually led her to open the roadside World Famous Crochet Museum to showcase her love of crocheting. A roadside museum is a pretty clever way to hook others into the world of crochet.
Buttons - The Button Museum is the result of Dalton Steven's keeping himself occupied during decades of insomnia. To pass the time when he couldn't sleep, he began sewing and gluing buttons to anything he could find, including a car. Thankfully, Dalton isn't attached to his buttons and shares his love for them with others.
Nerds are some of the coolest people in the world, if not the most creative. They are always up for learning new things and love to share what they have learned with others – and often that makes them some of the world’s most successful people. Nerds have created technology and written the best novels. Find Your Inner Nerd Day gives permission for everyone to explore our inner nerd. It's the perfect celebration to share our quirky parts and teach about loving ourselves for who we really are.
